Flanders: Kriek and Cream Cheese
Situated in the forest on the outskirts of town, Jezus Eik
is a popular
destination for small outings on week-ends, and the starting
point (or goal)
of walks through the forest, as both Tervueren , its museum
and ponds, the
Arboretum (a park planted with trees from all continents) and
the Royal Walk
(a majestic alley through the Forest) are within walking distance.
The beer
to be tasted here (it used to be produced locally) is the ruby-red
Kriek,
flavored with cherries, together with a slice of bread covered
with
"plattekees", cream cheese flavored with onions, chives
and/or radishes,
according to the season.
