Menu

Salvador Dalí was born in Figueres in 1904, where he died in 1989. After spending his infancy and adolescence in Catalonia, he went to Madrid to study fine arts. After his studies, he established himself in Cadaques, the town where his parents spent their summers. At a young age he started reading psychology, philosophy and science books. In 1924 he joined the surrealist movement. A few years later, other members of the surrealist movement criticized him for being too conservative.

In 1940 he moved to the United States, where he achieved a celebrity status, and became very rich. In 1948 he came back to Catalonia. Since then, he spent springs and summers in Cadaques, and winters and falls in New York and Paris. In 1974 he inaugurated his Museum in Figures, which has been a major tourist attraction since then.
