43/46.- Bassin de Thau, Aigues Mortes

Aigues Mortes ("Dead Waters") was built by King Louis IX ("Saint Louis") as a fortified harbour from where to start his Crusades. In the middle of the town square, King Louis now surveys, not his crusaders, but the hordes of tourists who come to taste the local dishes -- seafood and bull stew.
