8/46.- Bassin de Thau, Balaruc, Pavillon Sévigné
In the centre of town, the Pavillon Sévigné used to host one of the thermal facilities. It has now become the home of the Tourist Office and accommodates two small art galleries. Its main interest, however, is its footbath, built over a natural source, from which water springs at a temperature of 45 degrees centigrade -- just the right temperature for old, creaky and arthritic joints (though a little warm for people with varicose veins). Here, patients and tourists of all ages, races and nationalities come and sit together on the marble benches to dip their feet into the water, and at the same time tie bonds of short-lived fellowship, sometimes in many languages and accents.
