Heraklion, Archeological Museum, Agia Triada Sarcophagus
Libation and offerings to the dead. The Agia Triada sarcophagus
was found in a looted tomb of the 14th c. BC. It is a burial
chest in stone with scenes painted on lime plaster applied over
the limestone body of the chest. The scenes depicted on the
sarcophagus are unique in Aegean funerary art, and gave way
to an array of speculative interpretations, since written information
on Minoan cult practices and religion is not available yet.
