28/43.- Cadaques, Cap de
Creus - the sea
In this part of the
Cap de Creus Park there's not much vegetation. The reason
is not only the strong wind, but the soil. There's not
much more than rocks here.
In other parts of the park there used to be a lot of vegetation,
but periodic fires have destroyed almost all the trees. In 1986 a
big fire burned thousand of acres of land. In 2000 and 2001 devastating
fires affected the park again. If you come to Cadaques, you will appreciate
the results of these latter fires on the mountains surrounding Cadaques.
The strong winds and the dry weather are the perfect fertilizers for
these fires. Once the fire starts, all human efforts to stop it seem
to be in vain.
