Bridge
From the Castle
District theres a nice view of the other river
bank, where Pest sits. You can see here the most famous
bridge in town: the Chain Bridge. This was the first
bridge over the Danube, constructed between 1839 and
1849. The bridge is also known as the Széchenyi
bridge (after the Count István Széchenyi).
This bridge was destroyed during World War II, and
re-opened in 1949.
Behind the bridge
you can see St. Stephens Basilica, the biggest in
Budapest (with 8,500 seats). Its construction was a rather
difficult enterprise: both architects died, the
independence war was declared and the dome collapsed
during the time it was being built .
