13/40.- Bucharest, Financial District slide 3

The first bank in Romania, now a very inefficient and overstaffed state bank, this is the CEC mentioned earlier. Built between 1896 and 1900, this classical French Eclectic building has been used in the motion picture Amen by Costas Gavras as a replacement for the Vatican, as has been the Romanian Atheneum. Note that there's another building in this tour designed by the same architect. The inside of the building is equally impressive and will astonish even the more skeptical amongst architectural delight-seekers. The glass dome used to be a trademark of the early century Bucharest skyline, alongside the Museum of History's twin domes.
