3/43.- Hoi An, the Fujian Congregation Hall

The origin of the Chinese Congregation Halls in Hoi An is linked to the Chinese immigration back in the 16th century. Chinese used to form congregations (Bang) according to their region of origin. All Assembly houses follow a similar pattern, four halls with a central yard. The purpose of these houses was to meet friends, pray to the gods, and pay respect to the death ones.

The Fujian congregation is one of the largest in Hoi An. Inside the complex there is a yard, a temple with many murals and statues, and a small chapel dedicated to the deceased Fujian community leaders.
