The Presidential Palace lies next to Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum. It used to be the Headquarters for the Governor General of Indochina. Once the French were defeated, in 1954, Ho Chi Minh's refused living here. During the first years of his rule, Uncle Ho lived in a small cottage on the Palace's grounds. Later he moved to a humbler place, the House on Stilts.
Nowadays the Palace is used in important international meetings.
