7/50.- Hanoi, Tran Quoc Pagoda

The Tran Quoc Pagoda sits on an island in the West Lake. To get here from the Old District you can walk, or take a taxi. The King Ly Nam De commissioned the construction of this pagoda on the river bank 1400 years ago. During the reign of King Le Kinh Tong (1600-1618), the pagoda was moved to its current location.

To get to the island, you have to walk under the palm trees you see at the right of the picture. This was one of my favorite places in Hanoi. Next to the pagoda there are some bars and restaurants where you can have something to drink or eat.
