2/27.- Latakia, The Catholic Church
Latakia has a long history of several thousand years. The modern Latakia was founded in the 4th century BC by the Greeks. Throughout its history the city has been ruled by Romans, Arabs, Byzantines, Turks and many others. The last to control de city were the French. The territory became independent in 1922, and in 1944 was reintegrated to Syria.
Most of the population in Latakia are Alawite Muslims, but a big minority is Christian. In the picture you can see the Catholic Church of Latakia.
