3.- Samarkand, Sher Dor madrasah
Sher Dor madrasah - on the right (1619-1635) "keeping the
lions" has ribbed cupola. The lions - painted on the main portal
considered to be the Persian emblem - are stripped, which makes them
look like tigers. Lions are chasing the baby deer and the sun is enjoying
the scenery of hunting. Actually this decoration is breaking the Islamic
rule to depict no alive being.
