In downtown Amman you will also find some other Roman ruins, like the Colonnade Street in the picture.
After the Romans, the city became part of the Byzantine Empire. In this period several churches were built. With the expansion of Islam in the region, Amman was taken over by the Arabs. At the beginning of the 20st century Emir Abdullah ibn Al-Hussein made Amman the capital of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. In the second half of the 20th century many Palestinaians moved to Amman, and the capital underwent an expansion period.
