17/22.- Nagoya, Atsuta Jingu Shrine, ceremony

In the picture you can see a Shinto Wedding. While most funerals in Japan are held in Buddhist temples, wedding ceremonies take place in Shinto Shrines.

As you can see in the picture, in Shinto Weddings the couple are dressed in traditional Japanese kimonos. During the ceremony, the couple are purified, drink sake, and the groom reads his commitment. After the religious ceremony, the reception party takes place, usually in a restaurant.
