16/22.- Nagoya, Atsuta Jingu Shrine

Nagoya's Atsuta Jingu Shrine is one of the most important Shinto Shrines in Japan. It is dedicated to the Goddess Amaterasu, and is famous for hosting one of the three most sacred objects in shinto, the sacred sword.

The Sacred Sword is one of the symbols that gives legitimacy to Japan's Emperor. The legend says that this Sword was used to to kill an eight headed dragon by Susanoo. The sword is not on public display, though.
