The Kiyomizudera is the most popular temple in Kyoto. The temple was founded in the 8th century, and belongs to the Hosso sect of Buddhism.

The Kiyomizudera Temple is on a hill in the east of Kyoto. To get here you have to take one of the public buses, and walk up the hill. The access to the temple is through the Higashiyama district streets. This district is very popular among tourists. On the way to the temple you will find plenty of souvenir shops, restaurants, bars, and Japanese style inns (or ryokans). From the temple there is a nice view of the city of Kyoto.
