5/50.- Kyoto, Nishi Hongan-ji

The Nishi Hongan-ji Temple is home to one of Japan's largest Buddhist sects, the True Pure Land Sect (or Jodo Shinshu in Japanese). The temple was built at the end of the 16th century, and it is the main temple of this sect. The Jodo Shinshu sect has more than 10,000 temples in Japan.

The Nishi Hoanga-ji Temple is one of the biggest in Kyoto, and was designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
