Kyoto is a big metropolis with more than 1.5 million inhabitants. Its tourist destinations are scattered all over the city. The best way of moving around is by public bus.
If you go to the bus information center, outside Kyoto Train Station, you can ask for a map of the city with the buses' routes. There you can also buy a very useful one day bus pass.
Kyoto also has an underground network. With only two lines, the subway of Kyoto is not very convenient for visiting the city's main tourist attractions.
In the picture you can see the Nishi Nogan-ji Temple, which can be accessed on a pleasant 15 minutes stroll from Kyoto JR Station.
