Hiroshima, Gokoku Shrine
The Hiroshima Gokoku Jinja is a shinto shrine built in order to commemorate the
victims of the Boshin War. It dates from
the first year of the Meiji period. The Boshin War was a
civil war that took place in 1868-69 between forces of the ruling Tokugawa shogunate and those in favor of the restoration of the Emperor Meiji.
The Hiroshima Gokoku Jinja Shrine was rebuilt within the Hiroshima Castle in 1965, after being destroyed by the A-Bomb.
