8.- Bangkok, Vimanmek/bedroom

This is a bedroom, but who slept here I don't know. It doesn't seem to have much privacy.

Closed in 1935, Vimanmek was magnificently restored in 1982 at the behest of Queen Sirikit, the current queen, for Bangkok's bicentennial celebrations. (Bangkok and the USA are about the same age.) Vinanmek is now a museum of Thai arts and crafts and royal geegaws, from stuffed elephant feet and a player piano to priceless cameos and table service enough for a sitdown dinner for half the kingdom.
