It’s very important that you choose a good guide or porter. The difference between a guide and a porter, is that the guide is a local who speaks English and who knows the trail well. Porters are locals that don’t speak English and who will carry part of your equipment, some of them know the trail well too. It’s recommended that you look for a guide or porter in a trekking agency, they will make sure he has the knowledge and that he won’t cause you any trouble. When you have the porter or guide you’ll have to make sure that he has the right equipment: he must have sunglasses, correct foot wear and warm clothes. This is important, because there has been many problems (some fatal) with porters and guides not prepared.
