Another recommended excursion from Negril is the great morass. This swamp is 10 miles long and 2 miles wide. In its tea color waters crocodiles can be seen. Some years ago it was possible to watch manatees, but nobody knows if they still inhabit the swamps.
The zone ha recently been declared a nature reserve to prevent its deterioration. Unfortunately some years ago part of its waters were drained, and portions of the coral reefs were killed.
