Fort Lauderdale, Napoleon Broward
Since we are
talking about history, this guy (Napoleon Broward) is the
reason why Fort Lauderdale County. The city of Fort
Lauderdale is located in Broward County because Mr. B.
was an important guy in the early part of the 20th
Century. He obtained money to drain the Everglades in
west Fort Lauderdale (which reduced the mosquitoes and
opened the land for development) and he was a Governor of
the state. A bronze plaque is in the ground north of the
Main Library (at 100 South Andrews Blvd.) Can you find
it? It is near the Rainbow Sculpture that shows a rainbow
whenever the sun shines. So Mr. Broward lives in our
memories when we walk past his bronze
plaque.
