Fort Lauderdale, Oldest building in Fort Lauderdale
The Stranahan house
was built by Frank Stranahan as a trading post. Then it
was the town bank, post office and meeting hall. Frank
married Ivy Cromartie, a school teacher and he ran a real
estate company. The strain of the economic collapse of
land values in 1928 (after the hurricane of 1927) was too
much for him: he jumped into the river in May 1929 and
drowned.
