The Stranahan house was built by Frank Stranahan as a trading post. Then it was the town bank, post office and meeting hall. Frank married Ivy Cromartie, a school teacher and he ran a real estate company. The strain of the economic collapse of land values in 1928 (after the hurricane of 1927) was too much for him: he jumped into the river in May 1929 and drowned.
