9.- Fort Lauderdale, Water Taxi
It is possible to rent a boat in Fort Lauderdale
and travel along this protected channel between the
mainland and the ocean. The water taxi runs from
the center of Fort Lauderdale to the end of the New
River, giving a tour of homes along the way. A
water bus takes a route from the beach to the
downtown, traveling in about forty minutes a
distance of 5 miles (8 km). In addition to the
water taxi, there are small boats that we can ride
on from local restaurants, such as Shirttail
Charlie's. The boat leaves the restaurant every
half hour (between 6 and 9 p.m.) and we can go on a
15-minute trip up the river, then turn around. The
Charlie boat also crosses the New River to bring us
to the Riverfront Mall and shopping center (23
movie screens!), and we just give the captain a tip
($1 per person is recommended the water taxi costs
up to $5 for a one-way trip!) [Next »]
