19.- Everglades, Heron
or crane or egret?
I am confused when I
see these birds. What is the name of this bird? They have
long legs, the knees bend backwards (the foot moves forward
when they bend, which is opposite to us!). They have long
beaks and flat heads, long necks that can swallow a fish
without chewing. It's a blue heron. Keep your eyes open! If
you see a bird that is white and large, it is the white
crane (like a crane for construction of the building). If it
is white and small, it is a cattle egret and the large egret
has feathers that people put in hats 100 years ago (egret
means "small heron").
