One of the first things that surprise visitors to São Paulo is the kindness of its people.

You should not forget you are in Brazil, though. Although most of its people are very friendly towards tourists, São Paulo has gained certain reputation for being an unsafe place for foreigners. For this reason, visitors should remember this, and when visiting the city, they should always hide their cameras, and anything that denotes they are tourists. It is always better to ask someone one meets in the streets, than unfolding a map (which may attract unwanted attention). Apart from this, you should not be scared of São Paulo.
