49/50.- Rio de Janeiro, Carnival in Sambodrome

Most people who take part in the parades belong to one of the samba schools. But tourists have the possibility to take an active role in the festival. You have to pay the cost of the costume, and attend the rehearsals.

Schools of samba start working on the costumes for the next carnival, the day after the end of the festival. Choosing the theme of the parade, building the decoration of the carriage, designing and making the costumes, writing the samba music, creating the choreography; the work involved is massive! After one year of work, the results are more than spectacular.
