17/18.- Ouro Preto, Wildlife

The region of Minas Gerais is also famous for its wildlife. The surrounding mountains are permanently covered in green. Hummingbirds (picture) can be spotted everywhere.

If you like wildlife you may want to go to the Parque do Itacolomi, where you will find plenty of local flora and fauna; some of the animals in the region are endangered species. One of the nicest treks is the Trilha do Forno, recommendable for families with little children. If you want to take a guided tour to the Parque Estadual do Itacolomi, ask the tourist office for more information.
