36/37.-Ilheus, Jorge Amado House
For a small fee you can visit the house-museum of Jorge Amado (in the picture). The writer lived here when he was a child, after his parents built this house with the money they won on the lottery. Amado was born in a facienda in the state of Bahia, and moved to Ilheus when he was 2. Here he lived for 14 years. On the first floor of the museum you will find some of his most famous books. On the second floor there are some boards with information about Amado, and more of his books, statues of several
Candomblé gods, and an informative video. Most of the information is only available in Portuguese. Amado is famous for his books that talk about the Bahian customs.
