20/37.- Belem, souvenir shop

Belem is a city in the north of Brazil, where people are poorer than in the rest of the country. The good thing is that most things are cheaper here (hotels, restaurants, bars, transport).

Not many people speak English in Belem, but with some patience and good intentions it should not be difficult to understand the always happy and nice locals. Understanding Spanish may be handy, because Spanish and Portuguese are very similar.
