4/41.- Antarctica, Half Moon Island
Our first landing in Antarctica was Half Moon Island, a 2 Km long, crescent-shaped island that lies in the entrance to Moon Bay between Greenwich and Livingston Islands. There are approximately 3,300 breeding pairs of chinstrap penguins on the island, along with breeding Antarctic terns, skuas, kelp gulls, Wilson 's petrels and blue-eyed shags. On the other side of the island, Argentina has a base called Camera. We were led on a long walk and got to see and hear all the different animals. It was great to land in Antarctica again and to hear all the familiar sounds.
