3/4.- Casablanca, Hassan II Mosque, detail
The Mosque of Hassan II is not only one of the biggest religious
buildings in the world, but one of the most expensive too. Its
cost will reach almost one billion US dollars when it is completely
finished. The mosque has the tallest minaret in the world, with
210 meters, and room for 25,000 worshippers. The area surrounding
the mosque is under construction. A Koranic school and university
is currently being constructed in front of the mosque.
Other interesting things to do in Casablanca are a visit to
the beach at Ain Diab, where you can see how modern Casablanca
youth is; Lusitania, the Jewish district of Casablanca; the
Place Mohammed V, with its French colonial architecture; and
the old medina, smaller and not as interesting as the medinas
in Fez, Meknes or Marrakech.
